یکی از سوالاتی که همواره بین محققان و پژوهشگران مختلف علوم اجتماعی و انسانی مطرح بوده است این سوال است که چه نرخ بازگشتی از پرسشنامه ها مطلوب و قابل اتکا است. در این خصوص بایستی عنوان کرد که دقیقا جواب مشخص و مورد توافقی وجود ندارد. اما در این خصوص می توان به منابع متقنی به شرح زیر اتکا کرد:
